The first International Conference on Science and Technology of Composite Materials (COMAT) was held in Mar del Plata (Argentina) in 2001. This scientific event was developed every two years in different countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Spain, even organized by academic institutions of a great trajectory in the research of composite materials. These meetings have convened top-level specialists from different parts of the world, who are experts in this field and have shown the potential of composite materials development in terms of technological transfer. This conference was held again twice in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2005 and 2015. These previous events had about 200 people per congress. In 2015, it was coordinated that the next meeting would be held again in Argentina in order to increase the dissemination of these study topics and generate the participation of industries. Bahía Blanca was selected as a new location because of its proximity to the largest Petrochemical Complex of Argentina that produces materials used directly in composites development. It is intended that the geographical location of this city will allow a greater access to petrochemical industries, increasing the relationship with this sector.
